SORA Technology Launches Malaria Control Project in Sierra Leone|In collaboration with a local university, an international joint project commences
SORA Technology Ltd., headquartered in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, and led by Founder and CEO Yosuke Kaneko, announces the commencement of a significant malaria eradication project in Sierra Leone, combining drones and AI. The project, developed under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a local university, focuses on data collection critical for malaria control.
Utilizing Drones and AI for Mosquito Eradication
This initiative leverages a unique technique where drones equipped with AI identify breeding hotspots of malaria-carrying mosquitoes and strategically disperse insecticides, leading to cost-effective and environmentally-friendly mosquito control.
Talent Development with Njala University
In December 2022, SORA Technology signed an MOU with Njala University in Sierra Leone, focusing on drone-based infrastructure projects and nurturing drone and IT talent in the region. This project aligns with the management framework established with the university, involving students in data collection activities.
Essential Data for the Core of Malaria Eradication
The collected data serves as the backbone of SORA Technology’s broader initiatives to eradicate malaria across Africa. This data will enhance the accuracy of AI in identifying mosquito breeding grounds and contribute to global malaria prevention efforts.

We are pleased to begin this project in cooperation with Njara University. The data obtained from this project will be used to predict in what puddles the larvae of specific species of mosquitoes that transmit malaria will be present. Collecting more data will lead to more generic predictions and more efficient implementation of malaria control measures. Sierra Leone is the first step in this direction.
⚫️Francis(Project Manager in Sierra Leone)
I am excited to witness the impactful strides we are making in the fight against malaria through innovative and technology-driven solutions.
Our collaboration with local universities, particularly the MOU with Njala University, not only demonstrates our commitment to eradicating malaria but also emphasizes our dedication to fostering local talent and contributing to sustainable development.
This approach will not only benefit Sierra Leone but also set a precedent for responsible and effective interventions in malaria-prone regions across Africa”
