Malaria Eradication Project Using Drones and AI Selected for METI Program | Aiming to Address Climate & Health Challenges in Small Island Developing States
Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture – SORA Technology, Tackling Global Health and Climate Change with AI and Aerospace Technology, Founder and CEO: Yosuke Kaneko (hereinafter referred to as SORA Technology), is pleased to announce that its project using drones and AI for combating mosquito-borne diseases has been selected for the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) “Business Development Support for Solving Social Issues in Pacific Island Nations” program.
SORA Technology will participate in the economic mission held in Papua New Guinea in February, applying its infectious disease control technology to solve Climate & Health challenges in Small Island Developing States (SIDS), including Papua New Guinea.
Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Climate & Health
SIDS, comprising countries made up of small islands, are at the forefront of Climate & Health challenges. Vulnerable to the effects of global warming, such as rising sea levels, and facing unique challenges inherent to island nations, SIDS are exposed to threats like malnutrition, malaria, and heatstroke, necessitating urgent solutions.
Climate & Health Explained
Climate & Health refers to the health impacts on humans due to climate change. The World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that climate change will result in an additional annual death toll of approximately 250,000 people due to malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea, and heatstroke between 2030 and 2050. Developing countries, especially those in the Global South, face challenges in addressing these issues without support from developed countries. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is directly linked to reducing the factors contributing to climate change, thereby significantly benefiting human health. Climate change is considered the greatest threat to humanity in the 21st century, necessitating prompt solutions.
AI×Drones and AI×Satellites Solutions
SORA Technology is deploying a project in Africa aimed at eradicating malaria, a mosquito-borne infectious disease, by combining drones with AI (Artificial Intelligence). The company aims to apply the technology developed through this project to predict occurrences of severe disasters, such as floods, and to offer solutions for predicting the outbreak of diseases like mosquito larvae and malaria. By venturing into the Climate Tech sector, SORA Technology will provide unprecedented solutions in SIDS as well.
